LOWER YOUR GAZE

Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and God is well acquainted with all that they do.

Sura: 24, Ayat: 30.

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty;
that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof;
that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs (sexual etc.), or small children who have no knowledge of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments.
And 0 you Believers! turn you all together towards God, that you may attain Bliss.

Sura: 24, Ayat: 31.

RULES AGAINST SELF-DISPLAY

0 you Children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover your private parts, as well as to be an adornment to you. But the garment of righteousness,-that is the best. Such are among the Signs of God, that they may receive admonition!

Sura: 7, Ayat: 26.

Say: Who has forbidden the beautiful (gifts) of God, for His servants, and the things, clean and pure (which He has provided) for sustenance?
Say: They are, in the life of this world, for those who believe, (and) purely for them on the Day of Judgement. Thus do We explain the Signs in detail for those who understand.

Sura: 7, Ayat: 32.

0 you who believe! Enter not houses other than your own, until you have asked permission and saluted those in them: that is best for you, in order that you may heed (what is seemly).
If you find no one in the house, enter not until permission is given to you: if you are asked to go back, go back: that makes for greater purity for your-selves: and God knows well all that you do.
It is no fault on your part to enter houses not used for living in, which serve some (other) use for you: and God has knowledge of what you reveal and what you conceal.

Sura: 24, Ayat: 27-30.

Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and God is well acquainted with all that they do.

Sura: 24, Ayat: 30.

Say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs (sexual etc.), or small children who have no knowledge of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And 0 you Believers! turn you all together towards God, that you may attain Bliss.

Sura: 24, Ayat: 31.

0 you who believe! 'Let those whom your right hands possess, and the (children) among you who have not come of age ask your permission (before they come to your presence), on three occasions: before morning prayer; the while you put off your clothes at noon; and after the late-night prayer:
These are your three times of undress: outside those times it is not wrong for you or for them to move about attending to each other:
Thus does God make clear the Signs to you: for God is full of knowledge and wisdom.

Sura: 24, Ayat: 58.

But when the children among you come of age, let them (also) ask for permission, as do those senior to them (in age):
Thus does God make clear His Signs to you: for God is full of knowledge and wisdom.

Sura: 24, Ayat: 59.

Such elderly women as are past the prospect of marriage, there is no blame on them if they lay aside their (outer) garments, provided they make not a wanton display of their beauty: but it is best for them to be modest: and God is One Who sees and knows all things.

Sura: 24, Ayat: 60.

0 Consorts of the Prophet! You are not like any of the (other) women: If you do fear (God), be not too complaisant of speech, lest one in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire: but speak you a speech (that is) just..

Sura: 33, Ayat: 32.

And stay quietly in your houses, and make not a dazzling display, like that of the former Times of Ignorance; and establish regular Prayer, and give regular Charity; and obey God and His Apostle. And God only wishes to remove all abomination from you, you Members of the Family, and to make you pure and spotless.
And recite what is rehearsed to you in your homes, of the Signs of God and His Wisdom: For God understands the finest mysteries and is well-acquainted (with them).

Sura: 33, Ayat: 33-34.

0 you who have attained to faith! Do not enter the Prophet's dwellings unless you are given leave; (and when invited) to a meal, do not come (so early as) to wait for it to be readied: but whenever you are invited, enter (at the proper time); and when you have partaken of the meal, disperse without lingering for the sake of mere talk: that, behold, might give offence to the Prophet, and yet he might feel shy of (asking) you (to leave): but God is not shy of (teaching you) what is right.
And (as for the Prophet's wives,) whenever you ask them for anything that you need, ask them from behind a screen: this will but deepen the purity of your hearts and theirs. Moreover, it does not behove you to give offence to God's Prophet....

Sura: 33, Ayat: 53.

There is no blame (on these ladies if they appear) before their fathers or their sons, their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons or their women, or the (slaves) whom their right hands possess. And, (ladies), fear God: for God is Witness to all things.

Sura: 33, Ayat: 55.

Prophet! Tell your wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): That is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested.
And God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura: 33, Ayat: 59.

WIVES OF THE PROPHET-MOTHERS OF BELIEVERS

The Prophet is closer to the Believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers. Blood-relations are closer to one another, in the Decree of God than (the brotherhood of) believers and muhajirs: Nevertheless do you what is just to your closest friends: such is the writing in the Decree (of God).

Sura: 33, Ayat: 6.

0 Prophet, say to your wives: 'If you seek this life and all its finery, come, I will make provision for you and release you honourably. But if you seek Allah and His Apostle and the Hereafter, know that Allah has prepared a rich reward for those of you who do good works.'

Sura: 33, Ayat: 28-29.

Wives of the Prophet! Those of you who commit a proven sin shall be doubly punished. That is no difficult thing for Allah. But those of you who obey Allah and His Apostle and do good works shall be doubly rewarded; for them We have made a generous provision.

Sura: 33, Ayat: 30-31.

0 Consorts of the Prophet! You are not like any of the (other) women: if you do fear (God), be not too complaisant of speech, lest one in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire: but speak you a speech (that is) just.

Prophet, We have made lawful to you the wives to whom you have paid their dowers and those whom your right hand possesses and whom Allah has given you as booty; the daughters of your paternal and maternal uncles and of your paternal and maternal aunts who migrated with you; and any other believing woman who gives herself to you and whom you wished to take in marriage. This is only for you and not any other believer.
We well know the duties We have imposed on the faithful concerning their wives and those whom your right hand possesses, so that there should be no difficulty for you. Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
You may defer (the turn of) any of your wives you please and invite any of your wives you please. Nor is it unlawful for you to receive any of those whom you have temporarily set aside. That is more proper, so that they may be contented and not vexed, and may all be pleased with what you give them.
Allah knows what is in your hearts. He is All-knowing and Benignant.
No (other) women shall henceforth be lawful to you - nor are you (allowed) to supplant (any of) them by other wives, even though their beauty should please you greatly-: (none shall) be lawful to you) beyond those whom you (already) have come to possess. And God keeps watch over everything.

Sura: 33, Ayat: 50-52.

Moreover, it does not behove you to give offence to God's Prophet-just as it would not behove you ever to marry his widows after he has passed away: that, verily, would be enormity in the sight of God.
Whether you do anything openly or in secret, (remember that,) verily, God has full knowledge of everything.

Sura: 33, Ayat: 53-54.

There is no blame (on these ladies if they appear) before their fathers or their sons, their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons or their women, or the (slaves) whom their right hands possess. And, (ladies), fear God; for God is Witness to all things.

Sura: 33, Ayat: 55.

0 Prophet! Why do you, out of a desire to please (one or another of) your wives, impose (on yourself) a prohibition of something that God has made lawful to you? But God is Much-Forgiving, a dispenser of grace.

Sura: 66, Ayat: 1.

When the Prophet confided a secret to one of the wives; and when she disclosed it and Allah informed him of this, he made known one part of it and said nothing about the other. And when he had acquainted her with it, she said: 'Who told you this?' He replied: 'The Wise One, The All-knowing, told me.' If you two turn to Allah in repentance-for your hearts were inclined (to the prohibition) -you shall be pardoned; but if you back up each other against him, know that Allah is his Protector, and Gabriel, and the righteous amongst the faithful. The angels too are his helpers.
It may well be that, if he divorces you, his Lord will give him in your place better wives than yourselves, submissive to Allah and full of faith, devout, penitent, obedient, and given to fasting; both formerly married and virgins.

Sura: 66, Ayat: 3-5.

INDECENCY

Say: "Come, I will rehearse what God has (really) prohibited you from": join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want;-We provide sustenance for you and for them;-come not nigh to shameful deeds, whether open or secret; take not life, which God has made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus does He command you, that you may learn wisdom.

Sura: 6, Ayat: 151.

When they do aught that is shameful, they say: 'We found our fathers doing so', and "God commanded us thus": Say: "Nay, God never commands what is shameful: do you say of God what you know not?"

Sura; 7, Ayat: 28.

Say: The things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are: Shameful deeds, whether open or secret, sins and trespasses against truth or reason: assigning of partners to God, for which He has given no authority; and saying things about God of which you have no knowledge.

Sura: 7, Ayat: 33.

God commands justice, the doing of good, and liberality to kith and kin, and He forbids all shameful deeds, and injustice and rebellion: He instructs you that you may receive admonition.

Sura: 16, Ayat: 90.

Those who love (to see) scandal published or broadcast among the Believers, will have a grievous Penalty in this life and in the Hereafter: God knows, and you know not.

Sura: 24, Ayat: 19.

Whatever you are given (here) is (but) a convenience of this Life but that which is with God is better and more lasting: (It is) for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord; those who avoid the greater crimes and shameful deeds, and, when they are angry even then forgive.

Sura: 42, Ayat: 36-37.
